Technical Product Manager

Palo Alto, California

VMware Networking & Security solutions provide consistent, pervasive connectivity and security for apps and data, wherever they reside -- from the data center to the cloud and the edge. Building on the momentum of NSX Data Center for cloud-native applications, VMware is expanding its NSX portfolio to include an enterprise-class service mesh that works across any K8s environment. The recently announced NSX Service Mesh provides discovery, visibility, control, and security of users, apps, and data on any application platform or public cloud.

VMware is looking for a Technical Product Manager (TPM) to join our NSX Service Mesh team. This team operates in a fast-paced, start-up-like environment where the successful candidate will wear many hats and their work will have a real impact on the future of the NSX portfolio. You will have an opportunity to contribute at an early stage and learn many new aspects of service mesh and related technologies. You’ll be part of a small team that has a culture of ownership, open communication, innovation, teamwork, and customer focus.

  • At least 4+ years industry experience in a technical role: technical marketing, product management, systems engineering, or solutions architecture
  • Experience working across cloud-native technologies and networking or security
  • Deep technical depth and hands-on expertise in 2 or more of the following: Kubernetes, service mesh, SDN, networking, software virtualization, distributed systems, and security
  • Proven track record of creating and delivering customer and partner-facing collateral and technical materials such as white papers, design guides, solution briefs, technical presentations, training materials, and hands-on labs
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, and presentation skills
  • An MBA and engineering or computer science undergraduate degrees are pluses

  • Create customer and partner-facing technical collateral, including white papers, application notes, solution briefs, competitive analyses, hands-on exercises, and design guides
  • Document detailed descriptions of solutions, use cases, and deployment scenarios
  • Present to customers, partners, internal stakeholders, and at conferences about the product and technologies
  • Develop and deliver technical product training to field, channel partners, and end customers
  • Create and document product demonstration setups and scripts, and deliver demonstrations
  • Complete customer RFIs and RFPs, and maintain database of questions and responses
  • Assist in driving product definition based on detailed understanding of customer requirements as well as competitive alternatives
  • Work with product management leadership to successfully guide product design, implementation, testing, and release
  • Provide feedback on early engineer builds, including integrations and feature implementations
  • Partner with customer account teams to facilitate successful customer proof of concept deployments
  • Participate in joint lab and solution development with technology partners
  • Drive value and interoperability demonstrations with critical solution partners
