R&D Product Operations Interlock Lead

When Dell launches new game-changing products into the global market, Product Operations Engineering has a vital role to play. The team coordinates all the operational activities that enable products to be introduced and sustained successfully. It’s about making sure there is consistency between production and test environments. It’s about ensuring hardware, software and networking changes are migrated into the production environment in a stable and controlled way. And it’s about creating build processes, coordinating product builds for release into production and setting up configuration specifications for releases.


Key Responsibilities

  • Represents Infrastructure Engineering & Operations (IEO) to product development hardware and software engineering teams

  • Ensure product group roadmap alignment to IEO capabilities & asset investment strategy

  • Forecast, plan, and coordinate system deployments, associated lab infrastructure, VMs, and application services for all BU releases
  • Optimize asset investments by ensuring all demand goes through a Tech Review governance process
  • Facilitate regular operational reviews
  • Brainstorms potential projects; identifies opportunities for improvement and begins the communication process with team members and management

  • Initiates corrective actions for their functional area and extended teams
  • Designs and implements significant portion of project plan with coaching; co-leads project team as required; understands key resources required for project; tracks progress of project plan across multiple organizations and across functions

  • Demonstrates good judgment in routine decision making; recognizes when caught up in trivial matters; asks for help to set priorities

  • Knows where to get information to complete analyses; integrates available data into a logical and coherent structure for analysis; isolates the problem

  • Active participant in core team and develops plans and actions

  • Active participant in extended team and develops plans and actions

  • Follows and manages launch schedule template

  • ID’s moderate Risks (New, Unique, Different and Difficult) and develops mitigation plans


Essential Requirements

  • Understands specific product specifications and is able to create and communicate Operational requirements as related to those specifications with minimal direction from others

  • Experience leading discussions and meetings to decisions

  • Intermediate understanding of global data center products/peripherals industry

  • Intermediate command skills to assist in the implementation and execution of programs and initiatives

  • Solid technical knowledge about industry standards and DellEMC storage products

  • Typically requires 5+ years of related experience in a professional role with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3+ years with a Master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent experience

Desirable Requirements

  • Budget management and financial analysis
  • Experience with Program/Project management
  • Familiarity with New Product Development processes
  • Negotiation skills
